Round 2 Preview

Seniors

Game 1 – Zurich Lions vs. Basel Dragons

Zurich will be coming into this match hot and searching for a rebound after the hotly contested match with Geneva two weeks prior. Zurich will be saying auf wiedersehen to their handy backpacking recruit McVee, who made his only AFL Switzerland appearance in Round 1, but will fill the void with hardnut veterans as is their style. Basel will have Donbeirer back to help with some size and will be hoping that some good training sessions over the last two weeks has helped the legs as they will need them on what promises to be a hot day in northern Switzerland.

Bold prediction: Zurich will be too much for Basel and run out to a comfortable 6 goal win.

Game 2 – Winterthur Lions vs. Geneva Jets

Sure to be the game of the round as Winterthur is coming off a massive win and will be looking to make a statement at home against the Jets, who may again be light on numbers. The Lions will be ready to throw everything they have at the Jets and their size will be a massive advantage despite the Jets skill. The returns of Jacob Brownley and club founder Stefan Burgener will add to a stout lineup. The increased game length will be helpful for the Jets as they typically get better as a game goes on. The Lions will be looking to get the upper hand early and keep possession late in order to get to the finish line.

Bold prediction: a coin flip, but we’ll give the upper hand to the home side for their first win against Geneva in a close one.

Reserves

Game 3 – Northern Bears vs. Geneva Jets

The Jets welcome back former ressies leading goal-kicker Paul Garwood to complement the other senior citizen and literal rockstar, Greg ‘Dr. Silk’ Arnold up front. The Bears will continue to use their size and increasing skills to match the level of the Jets speed in ball movement. Should be another cracker of a game to finish out the round.

Bold prediction: Jets reinforced forward group will just kick too many for the Bears to catch up. Jets win by 4 goals.
