Round 1 – 2 April 2022
Bern will be the host city for the first round of the 2022 AFL Switzerland season this Saturday. It is the first time the league has scheduled play in the capital.
A grand final replay will feature in Round 1, with last years premiers the Geneva Jets taking on the Zurich Giants at midday in the new four-quarter format. Moving away from the round-robin model, each seniors match will be 4 x 18 minute quarters with each team playing only once per round. Reserves matches remain at 4 x 15 minutes.
The second match will see the return of the Basel Dragons to the seniors competition for the first time since their debut season in 2019. This weekend when they will face the Winterthur Lions.
The Reserves game will round out the day with the Northern Bears outfit back in the competition against the Geneva Jets Reserves.
