This was the round that almost didn’t happen. Late Saturday afternoon, at around 16:00, we were told that heavy rain meant we could no longer use the pitch at Allmend Brunau in Zürich.
This is what makes the AFL Switzerland community so special. We came together, secured the rugby ground in Bern, and moved the round there. A huge thank you to the Bern Bears, who sprang into action and organised everything, including the pitch, so we could play in Bern at such short notice. Special thanks to Elias Pirkheim, who made calls immediately to secure the ground.
Thank you also to the other AFL Switzerland clubs, who helped pool resources and support during the last-minute change of location, particularly the Commissioners. And thank you to all the players, umpires, volunteers and supporters for your flexibility.
Despite the location hiccup, we had another great round of close matches, setting the stage for round 5, where all three senior clubs still have a shot at the Grand Final. Only small percentage points now separate the clubs.
