Vision and Founding
The club was brought to life through the drive and leadership of Uli Senti (President) and Darren Waldron (Vice President & Coach), alongside a group of enthusiastic supporters who all shared a vision for Australian Rules Football in Zurich. Their determination, along with the essential support of many early contributors, laid the foundation for the Giants’ success.

Building a Community
In the early days, the club’s training sessions took place in a small Zurich park, attended by just a handful of dedicated players. Slow beginnings did not deter the Giants’ committee. Through a blend of strategic community outreach, creative promotions, and an unwavering commitment to inclusion, the club began to flourish. Training sessions soon attracted between 20 and 28 participants each week, representing over 18 nationalities, many of whom were new to the sport but quickly embraced its unique spirit.
Culture, Resilience and Adaptation
From the outset, the club has focused on much more than athletic development. A strong culture of camaraderie, social connection, and team building was intentionally fostered alongside skill training. When the COVID 19 pandemic disrupted normal activities, the Giants responded by moving fitness sessions online, opening them up to anyone seeking connection during challenging times.

Leading AusKick in Switzerland

The Zurich Giants were the pioneers of AusKick in Switzerland, and possibly Europe, creating an environment for boys and girls to discover Australian Football each Sunday. This initiative, supported by a dedicated group of volunteers, quickly became a cornerstone for families within the club. While the AusKick program has since wrapped up due to changing circumstances, it left a lasting legacy of youth engagement and community friendship.
Growth, Development and Spirit
Player development, inclusivity, and a strong sense of community have always been central to the Zurich Giants’ ethos. Coaches, committee members, and volunteers past and present have each helped shape the club, bringing new ideas and energy that ensured its ongoing progress and evolution.
A Truly International Club
Today, the Zurich Giants are recognized as one of the most diverse and welcoming teams in AFL Switzerland, with over 30 active members from across the globe. The club brings together people of all ages, backgrounds, and experience levels with even children joining occasional senior training sessions. The Giants look forward to continued growth and success, proudly representing the next generation of Australian Football in Europe.
